THE ARTWORK

-

This is an original black and white photographic positive acetate, 12,5 inches by 9 inches, representing Marilynn Karp, wife of the famous art dealer Ivan Karp, who joined the Leo Castelli Gallery in 1959 as an associate director.
Cellulose acetate film is used since the Twenties as a replacement for the highly flammable nitrate film, as a base of the support for photographic films. In the Warhol's creative process the use of the acetate film was an important step prior to the screenprinting of an image.
