THE ARTWORK

-

The Hameln's art Gallery used the piece "Still Life with Picasso" as the image for the Lichtenstein's exhibition held on 1982. As suggested by the name of the portfolio from which the piece was taken, this series of serigraphs Lichtenstein wants to pay tribute to Picasso and cubism. The whole composition it's characterized by the strong black lines that define the contour and the forms that are then filled with primary colours and the famous Ben Day dots, typical from the Pop Art and Lichtenstein's work.

Still life are constantly represented by cubism, great source of inspiration for the artist. Together with the still life, Lichtenstein represents, in the best Pop Art style, a Picasso's self-portrait. Most of the piece it's in black and white while the yellow of some forms stands out and contrasts with Picasso's image.
