THE ARTWORK

-

Tomoko Nagao is the most important representative of the  MicroPop and SuperFlat style in Italy, deeply influenced by Nara Yoshimoto's art and SuperFlat artworks. Her works are innovative, a constant ironic retelling of mainstream subjects and themes from the Western artistic tradition and the popular mass iconography. In this oil painting represent Salomè, from the famous painting by Caravaggio of 1610 that has two versions, one exhibited at The Natinal Gallery in London and the other one at the Royal Palace in Madrid. Tomoko's artworks are an allegory of the globalisation era, making everything kawaii, "lovely", "cute"; the light pastel color used for this artwork are an example of the Kawaii version of reality.
