THE ARTWORK

-

The birds are a recurrent theme in the works of Braque and they represent a metaphor for the liberty and the peace, especially after the Second World war. In the last period of his life, the artist repeatedly painted works with birds, that become in this way perfect subjects to express his constant research between space and movement. In this beautiful lithography on paper, Braque represents on a grey background the outlines with geometric contours of three splendid doves of black, brown and blue color. Behind of them there are two yellow and orange circles, that probably represent the sun and the moon, as it suggests us the title of the work.

This work is signed and numbered in original by Georges Braque. It was published by Maeght with code of catalogue Maeght 1034. The work is published on the raisonné catalogue of Georges Braque of Dora Vallier.
