Giovan Francesco Gonzaga painted many artworks about Barletta fight, a battle of 1503, fought by thirteen italian knights and thirteen french.After the defeat of french army, one soldiers of this challenged the italian army on the battlefield. The italian soldiers accepted and chose the best thirteen soldiers. The italian soldiers won the fight.
The artist represented the fight also the inspiration by the historical novel of Massimo D'Azeglio, writers, politician and patriot of the italian Resurgence. In fact the scripts of this novel are used as description of the artist's artworks.
