|Artista: Basquiat Jean-Michel||Base: 20,5 cm|
|Supporto: Paper||Altezza: 19,5 cm|
Basquiat, Andy Warhol and Francesco Clemente collaborated on a series of paintings under the aegis of Bruno Bischofberger between 1983 and 1985, of which this splendid work is part. On a uniform blue background a red African mask stands out, while 3 figures of men from the shoulders move away from the foreground towards the background. The left part is intereably occupied by a black grid of lines that looks almost like a cage, while on the right the writing is framed by the word Water.
In this work we can notice the characteristic features of Basquiat's style: strong colors without shadings, subjects derived from African art and graffiti, from the almost childish trait: a very different pop art from the one that portrayed the stars and objects of the consumer society of his friend Andy Warhol.
It was published by Kestner-Gesellschaft and printed in Hannover by Frenzel & Heinrichs.
Color offset print. 1984. Printed in 1986. Signed in black marker, lower right. Limited edition.
Jean-Michel Basquiat was born on December 22, 1960, in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of a Haitian-American father and a Puerto Rican mother. Since a very young age Basquiat shows an interest for art and his mother encouraged his artistic talent by taking him to art museums around New York city.
In 1968 his parents get divorced, and in 1976 he attended "City as A School", an alternative high school for talented students who failed at conventional schooling. The same years, when he was 17 years old, Basquiat starts to use drugs and begins to fill the streets of Manhattan with graffiti under the name "SAMO" a tag for Same Old Shit. His graffitis are revolutionary or senseless phrases like SAMO© SAVES IDIOTS, and often in his drawings he added words or phrases that oftentimes were crossed out.

When you put the works in the cart you will be separated from the vat exposed.
